What should I look for in a piano keyboard as a player first?
I'm looking to learn to play the piano, and I realize with extreme patience, I'll need to invest in a keyboard. I would rather be a teacher myself (online videos, etc.), but are friends I could go to for help if I needed it. I noticed a lot of different features: # key, the keys light up, the ability to connect to a computer, etc. .. While all the bells and whistles booster would be great, I do not think it would be wise to invest in them at this stage, as I am just learning … Anyone have a recommendation on a keyboard ideal for a beginner?
As a player beginner I think the main thing, you should be concerned about is the number of octaves (roughly the number of keys). Some keyboards shorter than the others, which means you can not go as far down the keyboard as you play the song demands it (this happened to me – it is very frustrating). Try to get as close to seven octaves, as you can, although, if you're looking for portability, you must go to cost. I think any keyboard relatively inexpensive to do. All other features like an illuminated keypad are pretty much obsolete, unless it is something that you absolutely must have.
