What is knowledge scales piano and strings?

I want to learn to use software called Fruity Loops Studio, to produce music / beats. But I heard people say that to be how to fight there, we need to know the scales of music / strings. I play bass and found that this is true … After weeks of playing scales back, to Manacor, Inside Out, to my ear became listening to different sounds in the scale. I can practically hear a song and determine which notes to play. I never taken a music lesson in good faith (I am self-taught), but I think that's why most music lessons emphasize the practice scales. If they say a song is in E flat I know what notes are contained in Eb scale and simply play the chords and patterns from these notes that dictates my ear. Regarding a few chords of a particular type of agreement (major, minor, diminished) is played out each of the 7 notes contained in the note of the scale. Although not impossilbe to produce music / beats, you need to know your balance, what are the notes that are contained, that agreements to play off each note would simplify your ability to compose a song or you'll lose a lot of time with trial and error …
