So are there two sets of music theory?
I was so with the theories of learning which music I seemed to have understood everything I can without spending money to take a class, which I can not do now, so I went back to see my guitar books, piano books, and other books, and I finally saw a type of difference in how diatonic modes are used in jazz and how they are used in other cases. I searched for an explanation of diatonic modes on the internet and I found a site that has made jazz is a world quite different from theory. Is this true? If yes, how would you suggest that I continue learning jazz and other styles while not getting not all mixed together, or are there good books of music theory that you can recommend? Thank you.
I would not say that jazz is a different world, but for some it may seem so. jazz is much more complex and varies with the characteristics of different styles, as in free form, bebop, and avant-grade. When you worry about theoretical knowledge, it is best to start with the basics, you seem to know, and continue to learn as much as possible on the bases. The basics are very basic when you learn about jazz. You really would not know some of the terminology of jazz, without learning the bases. A great book that I watched is Jazzology by Robert Rawlins and Nor Eddine bahh. I hope this helps!
